Sunrise with Mama-To-Be Grace Jackson

Sunrise with mama-to-be Grace Jackson, Photographed by husband Josh Soskin

Grace and I became fast friends in 9th grade. Even then, Grace was inspiring, confident and honest, she somehow blew past the awkward identity crisis of teenage years. Raised in the Carpinteria Foothills, Grace lived in a beautiful Spanish home built by her father, with beautiful gardens and her mother's shiatsu studio. HEAVEN. Grace and her husband Josh (photographer of this journal) met abroad, and have both been on the road, together and apart, for work and for pleasure ever since they met. Grace is always sharing about a different city, community, individual she just filmed(Grace is a director and producer of documentary-style content and short films) or explored and the unique influences they have had on her life. I remember once Grace told me very plainly that she had resolved to celebrate more, it was so basic but it resonated. The idea of stopping and making ceremony of the high points in life, instead of rolling past them and sprinting to the next, it's stuck with me and brought joy. It gave us great reason to stop and celebrate one evening at a table of 8 friends, when we learned that Grace was pregnant!!! To extend that celebration, I was thrilled when Grace and Josh agreed to do a photoshoot, sharing this moment of their lives, for our journal. I know Grace will have a lot of wisdom and perspective in motherhood and I look forward to sharing and learning!
