About Hand Me Dôen
We’re committed to pursuing responsibility in all aspects of our business. Hand Me Dôen (HMD) is designed to operate with several key intentions, including our commitment to create timeless products that last and move beyond a linear business model. We hope this program actively assists you, our community, in finding joy and value — both financial and emotional — in wearing and sharing pre-loved garments that were made to last.
We will host our first Hand Me Dôen selling event in Winter 2022, where you’ll be able to buy the pieces we’ve carefully inspected and authenticated from our buyback process. We will share more information about our HMD sales event in the coming months.
How do I trade-in my item(s)?
Our buyback program is offered through Treet. You can get started by accessing our Hand Me Dôen site, and select the “Sell Back” option. Create an account or sign into your account and follow the steps to submit the items you would like to sell, ship the items back to us, and earn DÔEN site credit. Note that if you use your email associated with your DOEN purchase history it makes trading-in items a breeze.
How do I ship my item?
After you’ve listed your item, you’ll receive an email that includes a prepaid USPS shipping label for you to print and drop off your item at a verified USPS location within 14 days. Your shipping label will expire after the 14th day.
Can I drop off my items to sell at a DÔEN store?
Not at the moment. Our buy back program is currently only available through our Treet/Hand Me Dôen portal, where you will receive a shipping label to send your items to be authenticated and reviewed by our team at our warehouse.
How do you authenticate the items you sell?
Each item undergoes a thorough inspection and is checked against the original product listing to ensure that it is an authentic DÔEN product.
How much will I get paid for items I trade-in?
Our trade-in credit is 50% of the price we will resell the item for, or simply put we split the re-sale of the garment. Our goal is to provide our customers with a fair and competitive credit so that more DOEN items can be used and loved by more people.
How do we determine the price for each style sold on Hand Me Dôen?
The price is predetermined and will always be discounted from the original retail price.
When do I receive my credit? Can I receive a cash/check instead?
Once your package is delivered for inspection, please allow up to 7-10 business days for the item(s) to be verified. Once verified, you’ll receive an email to redeem your credit. You do not have to wait for your item to be sold to receive your sell back credit. This credit can be used towards a future purchase at shopdoen.com towards new collections or pre-loved items during our Hand Me Dôen sale events.
What happens if my item is rejected?
We only accept items that are in excellent and wearable condition. We offer a comprehensive list of conditions in which an item would not be accepted that should be referenced prior to sending in your styles. This offers complete transparency as to what item condition is accepted by the program. As this is part of our effort to reduce our environmental impact, we do not want to receive items that cannot be resold because this creates unnecessary GHG emissions from transporting the items. Should an item be rejected, we do not intend to resell it, but rather remain committed to our environmental responsibilities by repurposing the garment through transparent, domestic opportunities such as remaking/ repurposing. Items will never be exported overseas, incinerated, or sent to a landfill.
Are International customers able to send in items for HMD? If so, what is that process?
At this time we are only offering the HMD program domestically.
Are HMD items final sale?
HMD items are eligible for return within 30 days of the order date with tags attached.
When will the secondhand items be on sale?
We will be hosting Hand Me Dôen flash sales throughout the year. These will be announced in our newsletters and on Instagram. Make sure to sign up for notifications to be the first to know when our sales are scheduled.
Will you have a variety of sizes and multiple units of each style?
Due to the resale nature of Hand Me Dôen, most styles will have a few units available at a time. We recommend searching your size or color preference with the filter option so you can see what is available quickly before they sell out!
Can I purchase HMD and new DÔEN at the same time at checkout?
Yes, all new DÔEN products and Hand Me Dôen products can be purchased in one order and shipped together.
Can I return my HMD product online and in store?
Yes, HMD returns can be processed online and in store.
