In search of breathtaking views and majestic towering pines, we settled upon the famously dramatic landscape of the Pacific Northwest as the perfect backdrop for our Fall 2018 shoot. Come mid-July, we ventured up the West Coast to the magical Orcas Island, where forested mountains meet the Salish Sea. Tucked away amidst the string of islands known as the San Juan archipelago, Orcas Island is an enchanting haven, dotted with flowering gardens and basked in a radiant light that reflects off of serene blue-grey waters. From meeting the sweetest animals (and people!) at Coffelt Farm, to wandering the trails of Moran State Park and taking our dear friend Serena’s vintage boat out for a spin, our time in Orcas was truly full of beauty and adventure. See below for some of our favorite spots on the island, and for photos from a few of our most memorable moments!

Doe Bay Cafe - Incredible, fresh food made with almost all local ingredients - often from the incredible garden they keep on the property!

Hogstone's Wood Oven - The best wood-fired pizza and wine we've ever had, and a perfect outdoor seating area!

Cascade Bay Grill - Cute little cafe on the Rosario Marina with the best calamari.

The Oyster Bar at Buck Bay Shellfish Farm - Fresh oysters harvested right outside the front door, and a charming picnic area.

Catkin Cafe - Lovely, local food, in the same space as the Orcas Island Artworks Gallery so you can browse locally made artwork and artisan goods while you wait!

Orcas Food Co-op - A little health food store that carries all of our favorite organic foods, plus an amazing selection of local produce and artisan-made goods.

Doe Bay Soaking Tubs - The perfect spot for a post-dinner soak (if you're in the mood for a hippy, clothing optional moment that is).

Orcas Island Pottery - A pottery showroom with outdoor displays of pottery, a gorgeous little treehouse, and scenic views across President's Channel.

Mount Constitution - Hike or drive to the peak of Mount Constitution in Moran State Park for stunning views in all directions.

Cascade Lake in Moran State Park - A crystal clear freshwater lake at the base of pine covered mountains...the best place for a dip, and some ice cream to follow!

We (obviously) have fallen completely in love with this gorgeous place, and are devastated to hear that it and its inhabitants are under threat. The ever dwindling population of orcas in the Salish Sea is currently starving as a result of irresponsible salmon fishing and overuse of dams on the Snake River. To take immediate action, call Governor Inslee at 360-902-4111 to demand breaching the dams.
