In celebration of Katherine’s 40th birthday, Margaret and Katherine (kiddos in tow), along with their closest friends and family headed up to Alisal Ranch in Solvang, not far from where they grew up for an action-packed few days of horseback riding, fly fishing, leisurely hot tub soaks, and s’more roasting to celebrate. The group kicked off the trip with a group horseback ride up to a vista on the 10,500-acre western sycamore-dotted grounds, where fragrant sage and Bay laurel wafted through the air. The kids enjoyed getting to know the goats on the property under the watchful eye of Grandma Faith, and later many delighted in fly fishing for the first time on Alisal Lake.

The celebrations culminated in an evening of laughter and reminiscing in the Cottonwood Room, where Katherine’s husband Colin and friend Sam transformed the space into a Fall foliage dream, teeming with foraged branches and an autumnal palette of golden browns and silver accents. By night’s end, the fireplace was roaring, sweet toasts were given, a particularly sweet rendition of Happy Birthday was played on the piano.
